Update on the carving on a Hawthorn

A new apex created on this medium sized tree. The old apex had little movement or taper so it had to go.

Carving Materclass 3/4 August 2013

Probably for the first time in the UK, a unique opportunity to gain some grounding in machine and hand carving techniques. Most material whether coniferous or deciduous will have areas or trunk chops that need work. The idea of the workshop is for the artists to lead and instruct as the students perform the work in making good quality deadwood without the all too often seen tool marks. This is the best way to learn and achieve the end goal. If your interested, contact Tony Tickle at

Swindon Winter Image show 2013

February 24th 2013. A date that many have been looking forward to as the Premier deciduous Winter image show in the UK. Organised and run by the Swindon and District Bonsai Society, the committee and membership work tirelessly in the run up and the take down over the weekend. The exhibitors are a mixture of local bonsai societies, invited guests, traders and demonstrators.
As an invited guest, I took three trees to display. It is the second time I have exhibited at Swindon and find catching up with old friends and new just as important as the display. Being a one day show, it can be difficult to talk to everyone though.
Here are the pictures of the show. Due to the poor lighting, most of my photos were terrible so many thanks to Amelia Williams for permission to use them.
Looking forward to next year already......
